On May 23, a delegation led by He Shushan, Deputy Mayor of Tianjin Municipality, visited and surveyed Chengdu Branch of Chinese Academy of Sciences (hereinafter referred to “Chengdu Branch”), with a view to implementing the comprehensive scientific cooperation between Tianjin Municipality and Chinese Academy of Sciences This project, advocated by Bai Chunli, President of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Sun Chunlan, Party Secretary of Tianjin, is an effort to assist in implementing the integrated and coordinated development strategy for Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region. We conducted in-depth exchange and discussions with the delegation, focusing on project cooperation, achievements transformation, talent introduction, etc. Wang Xueding, Party Secretary and Executive Vice-president of Chengdu Branch, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Wang Jiatu, Vice-president of Chengdu Branch, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Li Jing, Vice-president of Beijing Branch, Chinese Academy of Sciences also attended the discussion meeting.

At the meeting, Wang Jiatu introduced the Chengdu Branch and its cooperation with local governments in a general way. In addition, persons in-charge of all research institutes within the Chengdu Branch also briefed their work done for promoting the establishment of regional innovation system as well as the transformation of scientific achievements.

Wang Xueding extended a warm welcome towards representatives of Tianjin People’s Government. On April 24, the Chengdu Branch participated in the “Chinese Academy of Sciences Stepping Into Tianjin” activity led by Bai Chunli, President of Chinese Academy of Sciences. Following the instructions of Mr. Bai, we will commit to building a cooperation platform based on the scientific and technological needs of Tianjin Municipality, by making full use of the advantages of Chinese Academy of Sciences, so as to carry out market-oriented and project-based cooperation with Tianjin. This, in turn, promotes the transfer and transformation of our achievements in Tianjin.

Li Jing noted that the integrated and coordinated development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, as a national strategic plan, has opened a new prospect for collaboration between various branches of Chinese Academy of Sciences, and all of us should do our utmost efforts to hold special matchmaking meetings against Tianjin’s major sectors.

He Shushan said that the Chengdu Branch and Tianjin Municipality have maintained a cooperative relationship for a long time, and are gradually deepening such cooperative relationship. Tianjin People’s Government attaches great importance to scientific and technological innovation, especially its cooperation with Chinese Academy of Sciences. Through this visit, the delegation has had a better understanding of conditions of all research institutes of the Chengdu Branch. He hoped that the Chengdu Branch shall grasp the historic opportunities of two national significant strategies—the joint development of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region and the development and opening up of Binhai New Area—to further combine the competitive industries (such as new energy, aerospace and new materials) of Tianjin and the advantages of Chinese Academy of Sciences, conduct further matchmaking cooperation, and truly transform scientific achievements to productivity.
